Corporate Social Responsibility Recognition

Committed to sustainability in China

We received the 2019 RESPONSIBLE CARE^® Chairman's Award from the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers (AICM) for our implementation of the Responsible Care initiative and commitment to sustainability in China. This was the second year that we were honored with the award.

Getting the gold

EcoVadis, a leading provider of business sustainability ratings, gave us a Gold Rating in corporate social responsibility in 2019. We achieved a double-digit improvement compared to the prior year in the areas of environment, labor and human rights, and ethics, securing our position among the top 5% of companies evaluated.

LBGTQ advocate

We earned a high score of 90% on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). The CEI is considered the premier benchmark for corporate policies and practices relating to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) employees and their families, as well as LGBTQ workplace inclusion.

Engaged for good

Our COLORFUL COMMUNITIES^® program received the 2019 GOLD Halo Award in the Employee Engagement Group Volunteering category from Engage for Good. The Halo Awards are among North America’s highest honors for corporate social initiatives and cause marketing, showcasing successful consumer engagement and employee engagement efforts.

Transformation with heart

Union Rescue Mission (URM) presented us with its 2018 Heart of Transformation Award, which is given to the company that has made a life-changing impact for women and children living at URM’s Hope Gardens Family Center in Sylmar, California. In October 2018, more than 150 of our employee volunteers completed a Colorful Communities project to help revitalize the center’s campus.

A good neighbor

PPG and Mister Fred Rogers have more in common than just a hometown of Pittsburgh. Like Mr. Rogers, we have a legacy of caring about our neighbors and communities. In recognition of our commitment to volunteerism through our Colorful Communities program, we received the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania's Good Neighbor Award for the second year in a row.

Top in R&D

Our PPG POWERCRON^® 160 an ionic epoxy electrocoat (e-coat) technology earned a prestigious 2019 R&D^® 100 Award in the Mechanical/Materials category. A significant technical advance in e-coat technology, the coating cures at lower temperatures than conventional anionic e-coats, reducing energy use and related carbon emissions.

Chemistry heroes

A team of our automotive OEM coatings scientists received the American Chemical Society  2019 Heroes of Chemistry Award for the discovery and development of the B1:B2^® Compact Paint System. The system enables our customers to reduce the number of steps necessary to paint a vehicle by eliminating the primer layer. This delivers substantial cost savings, reduced energy consumption and increased process efficiency.

Showing our metal

The Metal Construction Association honored us with three of its 2018 Chairman’s Awards – the top honor for Overall Excellence as well as awards in the Commercial/Industrial and Education (Colleges and Universities) categories. PPG was the only coatings manufacturer recognized with awards.

Customer Awards

Quality on deck

We received a Best Performer Award from Airbus for our timely delivery of quality flight-deck windows. We were one of three suppliers among hundreds in the equipment and systems category to receive the award, which is part of the aircraft manufacturer’s Supply Chain and Quality Improvement Program.

Award-winning performance

For their superior performance from October 2017 through September 2018, our Dallas and Philadelphia aerospace application support centers each received a Silver Boeing Performance Excellence Award.

Toyota triple crown

Three of our operations were recognized by Toyota in 2019. PPG Kansai Automotive Finishes received the Excellent Supplier Diversity Award from Toyota North America, while our operations in Argentina accepted the Quality Excellence Performance Award from Toyota Latin America and Caribbean. In Brazil, we were recognized in Toyota’s 2018 Kaizen Quality Competition for our development of Enamel Clear, which is a colorless coating that can be used to prepare solid, metallic and pearlescent colors.

Growing in Canada

We received a Uni-Select Canada 2018 Achiever Award for our exceptional sales growth in Canada in the category of auto paint and body equipment. The awards honor suppliers that have demonstrated the highest commitment and support to the collision repair industry.
